A wine match option is also available. ### Meet Tim Foster Tim Foster is the Culinary Director and Executive Chef of Babae Ballarat and was recently awarded a Chef’s Hat from The Age Good Food Guide for 2025. Tim has spent a significant part of his hospitality career in regional South Australia. He migrated to the regional Victoria hospitality scene almost 14 years ago, working at the Healesville Hotel and then co-owning and cooking at the award winning Kyneton restaurant Source Dining, which held a chefs hat for nine consecutive years in The Age Good Food Guide. More recently he has owned and run one of Victoria’s top hotels, The Gold Mines Hotel and recently launched restaurant Terrae at Hotel Ernest, Vera’s companion hotel in Bendigo. The desire to be hospitable is what shapes our service philosophy across all food and beverage operations, and particularly Babae, the “jewel in the crown” of our dining spaces. Dianne says she wanted the restaurant to pay tribute to the building’s historic roots while celebrating the new age. “I wanted it to have a smart informality, but still be different,” she says. “We were dealing with a heritage building that had previously been condemned, and we wanted to bring it into the 21st century. We wanted to peel it back to where it was, but take it to where it’s going.” “Our beautiful interiors have been sympathetically designed to complement the historic 1850s building.” Everything in the restaurant has been handcrafted by local tradesmen, from the bespoke dining chairs to the stone tabletops, the corrugated Mt Buninyong feature wall to the sheoak shared table itself. “We had a large oak tree at our house and the children loved to play on one of its big branches,” Di says. “When it fell, Tim Williams (who worked on the restaurant’s fit-out) took the trunk and had it milled for us. He then combined it with a blackwood from his property and completed it with a piece of sheoak, which has copper-like grains that complement the restaurant interior.”  The restaurant’s open kitchen further enriches the dining experience, allowing guests the chance to feel invited into the entire cooking experience. “We hope our guests leave happy, and inspired by the different flavours and are surprised by the beautiful interiors,” Di says. “We have a real passion for flavour and quality ingredients. We do not offer any alternative bedding configurations, including single beds, king singles, trundle beds or rollaway beds. Suites have a strict maximum occupancy of two adults per room. Yes. Infants are welcome and stay free of charge when travelling with two adults. Portacots are not provided. Please book for two adults and include a note in the comments section advising that an infant will be staying with you. #### CHECK-IN & CHECK-OUT Check-in is from **2:00pm**. Check-out is by **10:00am**. Where possible, we do our best to accommodate early check-in or late check-out requests. Guest Services will be able to greet you in person, and we’ll brief our housekeeping team to prioritise your suite should early access be available. Early check-in cannot be guaranteed. If your suite is not ready on arrival, we are happy to securely store your luggage. #### BREAKFAST Yes. We serve a hyperlocal continental breakfast, celebrating some of our favourite regional producers 7 days a week Breakfast includes: - Vegas & Rose granola - Seasonal poached and fresh fruit - Pot-set yoghurt - Orange Juice - Inglenook milk and butter - St Ali coffee, hot chocolate or a selection of Bendigo Tea Associates herbal teas As part two, we serve a pastry from the award winning Turret Bakehouse. Guests may choose from one of 10 savoury sweet or pastries (including options such as plain croissant, ham & cheese croissant, or spinach & ricotta croissant). Sourdough toast is also available if pastries are not suitable. We will confirm your pastry selection at check-in for the following morning. Gluten free and vegan options available. If breakfast is included in your room rate, it is provided for **two adults**. If children are accompanying you, breakfast is available at an additional $15 per person. Yes. Breakfast can be added at **$30 per person**. As a small boutique hotel with just seven suites, breakfast is optional on most days and we do not offer a buffet service. #### PARKING On arrival, please park on **Sturt Street directly out the front of Hotel Vera**. Be sure to use the parking meter to activate your **1-hour free parking.** Yes. We offer off-street parking at the rear of the building where the stables are. Come down the carriageway and turn right. You will see a car stacker (grey box) and it is ok to park across the garage doors. This area includes a Porsche EV charger. This area is gated and can be secured overnight for additional peace of mind. Street parking at the front of the hotel is abundant and **free after 5:30pm.** Parking is free all day Sunday until Monday morning 9am. When you arrive you can claim the first hour by putting your car licence plate into the parking machine. To ensure the correct guests receive this information, we require the mobile number of each guest staying at the hotel. If the mobile number provided at the time of booking does not belong to the guest staying, please advise Reception prior to arrival. #### AMENITIES & SUSTAINABILITY No. As part of our sustainability commitment and waste-reduction targets, we do not provide slippers. Based on past experience, slippers are typically used once and discarded. Bamboo toothbrushes are available on request. These are biodegradable and help minimise landfill waste. We strongly encourage guests to bring their own personal items where possible. Yes. A Porsche EV universal charger is available in our rear off-street parking area and is suitable for all makes and models of EVs. #### ADDITIONAL NOTES All suites are designed around king-sized beds. We previously trialled alternative bedding options, including king singles, however guest feedback was negative. Due to suite layout, comfort standards, and occupational health & safety considerations, trundle and rollaway beds are not suitable for our property. If you have any further questions ahead of your stay, our team would be delighted to assist. #### LATE ARRIVAL Reception at Hotel Vera is attended around guest arrivals. As a small boutique hotel, we do not operate a 24-hour front desk. However, assistance is always available via phone should you require support outside standard arrival times. Guest Services will greet you on arrival, provide assisted check-in, and offer an orientation to the building and your suite. If you are planning to arrive **after 6:30pm**, we kindly ask that you make **prior arrangements** **with Vera's concierge team.** This allows us to organise after-hours access and ensure a smooth, seamless arrival experience. Hotel Vera operates with assisted check-in only. For late arrivals, access instructions and arrangements will be coordinated in advance by our concierge team. Clear communication prior to arrival is essential, as unattended check-in is not available without prior arrangement. If your travel plans change on the day of arrival, please contact us as soon as possible so we can assist. #### PETS We understand that pets are part of the family, and we are delighted to welcome them to Hotel Vera.
